Growing up in teenage years, you often want to find yourself quickly so that you have some sort of vision on where you going and who you really are. However, at 22 I can say that I am in the process of finding out who I am. What makes me tick, what makes me smile and what makes me do what I do when I do it. Indeed, I think this progressive process of finding ourselves is a daily journey and often times can be scary for most people. Instead, it is actually a beautiful process of the unravelling of beauty that has yet to be discovered and embraced.
When we arrive at the place of discovery it becomes our choice to accept what is found or really fight against that all our lives, living like someone else. It is hard to be yourself when no one is like you, but that is the beauty thereof. We were not meant to be like everyone else, that is definitely not God's plan. In infinite creativity He breathed His life into our nostrils and we received a part of who He is. The intelligence, the creativity, the analytical thinking, the uncommon knowledge and the vast expansion of so many different types of personalities and traits.
Last night a few friends and I went out for supper at Hudsons, Greenpoint. It is a really nice burger joint and the vibe is awesome. As we were sitting I just felt so encouraged that we were not trying to be anyone else but ourselves. We all had different opinions about certain things but we enjoyed the company of those around us in so much fun. I always have the sense of "dork" that comes out when I am just comfortable in myself, and I have been on the journey for quite some time embracing that part of who I am. It is pivotal that we find the unique parts of who we are and embrace them. Some of us are loud, some of us are really soft. Some of us love parties and others prefer the quiet alone time. We are all different in so many ways.
To the naysayers I would like to say, please do not push down people who are not like you, because pretty soon you will find people not like you who thinks the same way about you. It is not our job to criticise someone for being who they are in appearance or in their personality. God is pleased with how He created you and He did it for His glory. You were made for the glory of His Son, Jesus Christ and He delights in you. It is by time that you start delighting in yourself. You are His master-work of art with your freckles, corse hair and tallness and all.
Love yourself darling. Embrace the strengths and accept your flaws. If you have weaknesses that you can work on, then work on it. If you cannot, simply let it go.
Young people, start recognising who you are in Christ. He makes us whole, He makes us strong. We can find our own purpose in this life, but His purpose is so much greater. If you give your life into His hands, He starts working on what has been damaged through sin. I mean who better to work on us than the perfect Creator Himself?

ReplyDeleteThanks Whitney. Your heart.
ReplyDeleteTrue words. I spent most of my childhood trying to be who I thought other people wanted me to be, trying to be accepted. Only much later have I started figuring out who I really am. It’s a good feeling to be and to love the person God made you to be.
ReplyDeleteGreat post Rowyn... Keep writing.
