Why blog? You ask

I get asked a lot what I blog about and I get a lot of feedback from the wonderful people who read my blogposts. I am really grateful that people take out the time to read and share what I have to say.

Today a student approached me after assembly and asked if she could give me a hug, obviously I replied yes, who doesn't love hugs? Her words soon followed, "I really liked your blog about insecurities", then she smiled. I could see how much she could relate to my story and I started explaining why I do blog about these things and I elaborated on what I posted.

Many people see me as this worship leader, this confident young man and lover of God who is always found up on a stage. But that is not all I am, yes I am a worship leader, confident and passionate about loving God but there is a place in my life many do not see. It is the real part of me. I too go through most of what other 22 year old year olds go through and often times more, but I would like people to be encouraged by it. So it encourages me to be honest in my posts, because there is a dying world out there who is longing to hear someone to be honest and be a light. Most likely people look at us lovers of God and they don't know that maybe we struggle with masturbation, smoking addiction, pride, anger and all the other these other things that hinder our walks with God, and all they see is the clean shiny us. Instead we should be the most honest human beings who help others overcome, because that is why we depend on God and we will fall if we do not. Yes we can overcome, but the last time I read in James 5:16, "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective". There is a key in that scripture, to confess your sins to each other so that you may be healed.

I want people to know that we are nothing less than harlots (yes prostitutes) who have sinned against God and man, but we chose to follow Him because He is able to free us and forgive us because of what Jesus has done on the cross of calvary many years ago. Not because we have it all together, we do not! I want to encourage that young person who is contemplating to commit suicide and take the next dose of drugs to ease the pain that there is a Hope that will break through the darkest of nights and that hope is not a thing but a person. He is Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God.

I remember in my Grade 12 year at high school, it was the worst year of my life. I was rebellious, my life was spiralling, and I lost hope and all I needed was for someone I fell in love with to passively reject me. And that just happened! I then found out about self mutilation and using my brokeness as a drive, and I then aspired to become an emo kid. I started cutting while listening to Corinne Bailey Rae's music. "Trouble sleeping" and "Just like a star" would play and I would cry as I took the blade to cut my arm and the blood would flow. I carried this blade with to my friends' houses and I even went alone to cut at the beach. Many people would hear this side of my life when I testify, but I hardly get those opportunities these days. My life was a mess! But I want others to know that I came through that and that there is hope.

Teen life is hard, and teenagers are not the only ones going through a lot of hurt and anguish. There is a battle everyone faces and often times they feel like life is too hard!

So I want to reach the unreachable. I want to reach people I have yet to meet and other people who have yet to read about my blogs. I pray that many doors will open for me to voice my voice and be a light shining in my generation.

This is why I blog and why I blog about the things I do write about. It is to see people like this young lady who approached me today who found what I said to be an encouragement and maybe they can feel better about the way they view themselves and life because of my brokeness.

Shalom.
