For weeks now I have been pondering a lot on how Adam and Eve must have felt when they no longer were welcome in the Garden of Eden because of their disobedience to the Father. The place where they spoke with God in the cool of the day, in the shade of the trees.
I can only imagine that it must have dawned on them that what was once precious to them had now been taken away because they chose to over step the boundaries of what was placed before them by the Immortal One who burns as bright as the sun. What must it have felt like when they just woke up the next morning only to realise that intimacy had been broken and their spirits had become disconnected.
If I was Adam or Eve, the number one emotion I would struggle with would be guilt. The guilt of disappointing the One who really loved my moments of conversation and time I spent with Him. The One who was obsessed with me since before time has begun.
On the other side of the spectrum, I also try to place myself in God's shoes for a moment to try and picture what He might have felt that day. Remember, He was the One who was obsessed with humanity since the beginning of time. How He must have felt when He called out for Adam and Adam would not pitch because of where he found himself at that moment.
I am sure the serpent rejoiced at the fact that God had lost His touch with the human race because of our own sin and disobedience.
But the story does not end there. Jesus then came on to the scene a few moments after this terrible experience between God and humanity and He changed the story. Jesus had now taken on the form of the second Adam restoring us back to having access in the garden which speaks of intimacy.
But why do we stand a far off?
Why do we stand outside the garden like Adam and Eve?
Why do we still make a camp with our guilt and make it our lover?
When the Father has made provision for us to enter into intimacy again through the sacrifice of His only begotten Son.
Are we drifting off into the wilderness of our own sin and shame?
Are we standing outside the garden trying to break in when the garden is open and we have free access again through one man's blood?
The Father is ready to accept you into intimacy with Him. Whether this might be your 20th time coming back or your very first time tasting what it feels like, He has made a way for you to come. Just like in the days of old, the Father eagerly waits in the cool of the day beckoning for you to come closer. You don't need to have it all figured our or have your garments already clean. He will change you and change your heart by His Spirit, all you have to do is come!
